Billy Keyserling, Agent

Entering Real Estate as a hobby almost fifty years ago and professionally not long thereafter, Billy Keyserling has mastered all levels of real estate. Starting as a general residential agent, Billy became a very successful top producing agent and highly regarded infill residential developer. He started Keyserling Real Estate which became Coldwell Banker Keyserling and then merged his growing company with Coldwell Banker Platinum Partners so he could specialize in commercial real estate, and real estate investments including 1031 exchange, conservation easements, charitable bargain sales and securitized real estate (tenants in common). As one of the area’s top producing Realtors, Billy is also recognized for historic restoration and urban infill projects including The Village at Port Royal, recognized by Builder Magazine, restoration of Beaufort’s old Firehouse, and 710 Boundary Street, a mixed-use building which was recognized by Coastal Living Magazine. While he maintained a general brokerage business, Keyserling has also invested his time in public service, starting in Washington, DC where he worked on and around Capitol Hill in the US House and Senate, as a public affairs consultant and the director of a multinational non-profit organization. When he “declared victory” in the nation’s Capitol, he came home to Beaufort, served as a marketing and public affairs consultant, was a member of the SC House of Representatives, served on the Beaufort City Council, and had a very productive twelve years as the Mayor of his beloved hometown. During his tenure, the city expanded its infrastructure with a more environmentally sustainable and aesthetically attractive gateway to the historic city which is consistently rated among “the best cities” by national publications and news media. While on Council he also championed streetscapes, opened blighted areas for redevelopment and a day dock for day trippers to Beaufort. He also formed and directed “The Young Leaders of Beaufort” composed of 36 middle schoolers. While some real estate professionals and developers dread the regulatory challenges, Billy embraces the public process and uses his public affairs skills and experience to achieve support for innovation. Keyserling considers himself a “matchmaker, matching good ideas with good developers to do the right project to meet market opportunities.” A Beaufort native, Billy Keyserling graduated Magnum Cum Laude from Brandeis University and earned his MS in Public Communication from Boston University. Billy served on or currently serves on the Boards of the SC Municipal Association, SC Humanities, Beaufort Marine Institute, Trash, and Litter Control, The Beaufort Little Theatre, the Arts Council of Beaufort, the SC Jewish Historical Society, the Pat Conroy Literary Center among others and was honored by many of the state's cultural, environmental organizations, is a co-recipient of the Governor’s Elizabeth O’Neill Verner Award for the Arts, a recipient of the Governors Award for the Humanities and received the CIty’s Award from the Congress on New Urbanism.
