When Captain William Hilton first sailed the Port Royal Sound in 1663, he not only named the bluffs along Hilton Head Island where Hilton Head Plantation is today after himself, he also noted “This headland is bluff and seems steep, as if the trees hang over the water. The Lands are laden with large tall Oaks, Walnut and Bayes, except facing on the Sea, it is most Pines tall and good……the Ayr is clear and sweet, the Country very pleasant and delightful”….Hilton noted, “we could wish that all they that want a happy settlement….were well transported thither.”


We are glad to say that still today, the oaks and pines in Hilton Head Plantation are tall and majestic and the air is clear…

Bluffton’s Oyster Factory Park recently underwent over $900,000 worth of upgrades. The town celebrated the enhancements on Thursday, May 12, 2016, with an official ribbon cutting. For many years, the Oyster Factory has been used as a boat launch to the May River. Inadequate parking and a single ramp made access to the river challenging.

Because the Bluffton Oyster Factory Park is the gateway to the May River, the town knew improvements were necessary. The improvements include expanded parking and a wooden walkway to the water. The latest improvements include a brand new finger dock and a 2 lane boat launch. This past weekend marked the 38th annual Bluffton Village Festival along Calhoun Street in Downtown Bluffton. The event, organized by the Bluffton Rotary Club, attracted thousands of visitors to Downtown Bluffton this year. A highly anticipated event in the Lowcountry, the festival always falls on Mother’s Day weekend and features live bands, dancers and street music on several stages. Vendor tents filled with arts and crafts lined the streets as visitors made their way to the end of Calhoun Street to enjoy the waterfront views from the Church of the Cross.
