Bluffton Rotary’s Annual Oyster Roast
The Rotary Club of Bluffton will hold its classic Oyster Roast event from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Bluffton Oyster Factory Park, 63 Wharf St, Bluffton. The community is invited for a unique evening on the banks of the May River to enjoy succulent local oysters, live music, good company and a bonfire. The ticket price covers all-you-can-eat, freshly harvested May River oysters. Guests can also enjoy chili, hot dogs, French fries and brats. Chili Cookoff Sponsored by The Kiwanis Club
The Chili Cookoff is a fundraiser for local children’s charities and is a competition amongst restaurants and amateurs vying for best chili awards in six different categories and voted upon by the ticket holders. This year’s location is Shelter Cove Community Park at Towne Centre and the date is January 21, 2017. The ever-popular Chilly Willy Band will be providing its unique style of country and blues music. Complimentary vehicle and bicycle parking, complimentary children’s games and activities, including face painting, will enable parents and children alike to fully enjoy the festivities. The Chili Cook-off will take place rain or shine, and attendees are encouraged to come hungry for all-you-can-eat chili! Children under 12 admitted free!

Opera by the Ocean
This whole year, in all the great cities across America, there have been just six productions of Puccini’s masterwork, La Boheme, the most beautiful, tragic love story of all Italian grand opera.
Martin McFie presents The Charleston Opera production of La Boheme on Hilton Head Island 21& 22 January.
Michael Rossi will conduct the orchestra and chorus, opera singers in period costume from New York will sing in Italian but the words will be translated into English for all to follow the twists and turns of the plot, the drama, and the tragedy too.

Boys and Girls Club Hope & Opportunity
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Bluffton and Hilton Head Island will host the 2017 Hope & Opportunity luncheon from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26 at the Country Club of Hilton Head, 70 Skull Creek Dr. This year’s event will honor long-time Club supporters Leroy “Roy” Plekenpol for the Hilton Head Club and Bob Burton for the Bluffton Club. The luncheon honors those who have achieved professional excellence, actively served the community and have directly supported the club. The luncheon is open to the public.
