James began his real estate career on Hilton Head Island in 1981 and later co-founded Charter One Realty and Marketing – the number one company on Hilton Head Island – serving the Lowcountry with all of their real estate needs. James continues to be the number one Realtor on Hilton Head Island – most recently in 2018 with approximately $130 million in sales. Prior to moving to Hilton Head Island, James worked for Southwestern Publishing Company for fourteen years in the sales department and was recognized as the number one sales manager in the company. James and his wife, Jane, love the Lowcountry lifestyle on the Island. They have four children; Brandi Jane (Jason), Marsha (Drew), Chip (Madalyn) and David (Abbey). They have also been blessed with 14 grandchildren! In his spare time, James enjoys watching the Atlanta Braves and spending time on his farm.

Add common sense and a 24/7 drive to get deals and get ‘em done—experience counts and you’d be lucky to have him and his wonderful associate Mary Stuedemann in your corner. Our home got a lot of views and James was very skillful in negotiating a great purchase offer for us. Unfortunately the house needed new pipes which caused delays and there were complications about the survey. Each of these could have derailed the deal but James used great tact and called upon his career’s worth of contacts to move the two big issues forward. He kept us informed every step of the way.
