Like the name implies, Above Standard Equestrian is dedicated to teaching riders of all ages and skill levels the principles of classical dressage and jumping. Owners Tim and Gini Quade have carved out a reputation for excellence in equestrian programming that is recognized throughout the entire Lowcountry. Gini, who majored in equestrian studies with a focus on teaching and training in college, offers beginner through advanced lessons and summer camps for both juniors and adults. Last year, the Quades had relocated their thriving business from Huspa Plantation in Sheldon to the property owned by Robert Graves near Pepper Hall, just before the exit to 170 at HWY 278. They looked forward to a bright future there until last October they were served a 30 day eviction notice by Graves so that he can sell for development, after Beaufort County bought the property that surrounds him. Beforehand, while the Quade’s business occupied Huspa Plantation, Gini and her team renovated the old plantation dairy barn into horse stalls with modern conveniences, formed an Interscholastic Equestrian Team, traveled to competitions, attended fox hunts, and hosted guest speakers, clinics, shows and trail ride events. Summer horsemanship camps will begin at their new location in June, and at the same time Tim will offer his own “Farm Life” camp, where kids and adults alike can experience milking goats, making cheese, collecting chicken eggs, making a vegetable garden and other hobby farm skills.
