Summer in the Lowcountry brings boat days, beach weekends, backyard cookouts, and long evenings under the live oaks. But for many local families across Hilton Head Island, Bluffton, and Beaufort, summer also brings an unexpected challenge: the loss of reliable school-provided meals.
When schools close for summer break, thousands of children no longer have access to breakfast and lunch programs they depend on during the school year. At the very same time, local food banks and community organizations often experience some of their lowest donation levels of the year. It creates a difficult gap for many hardworking families throughout the Lowcountry.
That is why Charter One Realty is proud to host a Summer Food Drive across all of our offices throughout the Coastal Lowcountry and collecting donations through June 26th.
At Charter One Realty, real estate is only part of our story. We believe strong communities are built through service, compassion, and showing up for our neighbors when it matters most. This food drive is one small way we can help support local families during a season when many need it most.
Why Summer Food Drives Matter
Food insecurity does not take a vacation when school lets out. In fact, summer months are often among the hardest times of year for families already balancing rising grocery costs, childcare expenses, and everyday living costs.
Organizations like Bluffton Self Help and HELP of Beaufort work tirelessly to provide food assistance, emergency aid, and support services to individuals and families throughout the region. During summer, demand increases significantly while donations often decline.
A simple grocery bag donation can help provide meals for children, seniors, veterans, and local families facing difficult circumstances. Sometimes the smallest gestures have the greatest impact. A few cans of soup may not seem life-changing until you are the family standing in the pantry line hoping shelves are still stocked.
The truth is, community support matters. Especially here in the Lowcountry, where neighbors still believe in helping neighbors.
Items Most Needed
We are currently collecting non-perishable food items and grocery store gift cards, including:
- Canned vegetables and fruit
- Rice and pasta
- Boxed potatoes and stuffing
- Cream soups, broth, and gravy mixes
- Baking mixes, frosting, pie fillings, and crusts
- Roasting pans
- Cereal and oatmeal
- Taco kits and Hamburger Helper
- Pasta sauce
- Canned chili
- Tuna and canned chicken
- Shelf-stable cheese
- Hearty soups
- Flour and sugar
- Cooking oils and condiments

Think comfort foods, pantry staples, and practical meal solutions. The kinds of things families can quickly turn into dinner after a long summer day. Nothing flashy. Just helpful. Southern grandmothers everywhere would approve.

More Than Real Estate
At Charter One Realty, we are proud to serve the communities where we live, work, and raise our families. From supporting local nonprofits to hosting community initiatives like this food drive, giving back has always been part of who we are.
Real estate may help people find homes, but community is what makes those homes meaningful.
This summer, we invite the Lowcountry community to join us in helping restock local food pantries and support families in need. Together, we can ensure more children and families across the Lowcountry have access to meals and support during the summer months.
Thank you for helping us make a difference.
