Formosan Subterranean Termites have entered the Lowcountry!

Just because you have a termite contract in the Lowcountry does not mean that you are covered for damage from this new type of dangerous termite. The Formosa termites have entered the Lowcountry, and you don’t want to find yourself without coverage.

Remember that termite coverage is really nothing other than term insurance and termites eat a structure from the inside out, so they are extremely difficult to detect. Once established, Formosan termites have never been eradicated from an area, so it looks like they are here to stay.

One of my neighbors is spending thousands of dollars to treat the Formosan termites, and he thought he had the right kind of coverage. I checked with my termite treating company yesterday and was informed I do not have coverage and would have to be “qualified” as a home that they would consider covering.

It appears that the national firms are more willing to cover us and the local pest control companies are fighting the risk involved. In my case, I am going to check around with companies like Terminix and Orkin and determine the best course of action for my family.

But it is ridiculous to have an expensive termite policy and not have it cover problems with Formosan termite damage.
