What Is the Tall Ship ELISSA?

Built in 1877, ELISSA is one of only three surviving square-rigged iron barques still actively sailing anywhere in the world. Today, she serves as the Official Tall Ship of Texas and is designated as a National Historic Landmark.

After narrowly escaping a Greek scrapyard decades ago, the vessel was painstakingly restored and now operates as a living museum. ELISSA preserves the craftsmanship and traditions of nineteenth-century sailing. During her Savannah visit, guests can walk the decks, meet crew members, and experience maritime history in a way few traditional museums can offer.
