It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Who doesn’t love the holidays in the Lowcountry? Between our beautiful scenery decorated to the nines and a warm community full of celebratory events, spending time here being festive is a must! 

With so many fun things to do and friends and family to see in the community, we’ve put together a Lowcountry holiday event calendar and narrowed down a list of the top activities and places to visit this season.

Whether you want to relax this holiday season, register the kids for an art class, get some shopping done, or pack the car up and see the sights, there’s plenty to do around town. Check out our list of fun holiday celebrations in the Lowcountry below! 

Lowcountry Christmas Light Displays

Brendlen’s Lowcountry Christmas Light Display

Even most holiday Scrooges and Grinches enjoy the glow of Christmas lights! This year, be sure to make a night of it and bring family or friends to explore Brendlen's Lowcountry Christmas Light Display in Ridgeland, SC. Kids' activities include decorating your own ornament, face painting, and cookie decorating.

  • Lights are currently on display every evening from 6 - 10 pm. 

  • Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available for photos on Saturday, Dec. 11 from 5 - 8 pm.

  • The event is free (however, donations are welcome).

  • Location: 1570 Driggers Lane, Ridgeland, SC

Shelter Cove Towne Centre

Shelter Cove is home to many delicious restaurants and shops, making it a great place to visit year-round. During the holidays, they go the extra mile by building a show-stopping canopy of lights! 

  • The individual stores decorate too, making this a beautiful display to take in.

  • Walk along the marina’s waterfront to enjoy the light sparkling on the water.

  • It is free, but we recommend picking up some gifts or dinner while you’re there!

Christmas Parades in the Lowcountry

The Port Royal Golf Cart Christmas Parade

Golf carts are a way of life in the Lowcountry, decorate yours and floor it to the parade! Port Royal is holding the annual Golf Cart Christmas Parade in Downtown 

  • When: Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021, 6 – 7 pm

The Summerville Christmas Parade

This year’s theme for all things festive in Summerville is “Christmas in the Pines” which celebrates the lush trees in the community in the town.  

  • When: Sunday, Dec. 12 at 2 pm

Christmas Light Parade in Mount Pleasant

The 26th Annual Christmas Light Parade is almost here! Join your friends and family in Mount Pleasant for a decked-out super celebration Christmas parade. Start the weekend at the Holiday Market and Craft Show Saturday, Dec. 11 at 11 am (Farmers Market Pavillion), and keep the fun going on Sunday! 

  • When: Sunday, Dec. 12 5:30 pm

Extra Holiday Fun for Kids: Lowcountry Christmas Activities

Holiday Art Classes

For crafty kids who like to learn and play, check out the Christmas Ornaments Class at The Society of Bluffton Artists Gallery in Bluffton. Kids will design their very own ornament as the instructor guides and oversees their little projects. 

  • Ages 6-14 

  • When: Friday, Dec. 10  5:30 - 7pm; Saturday, Dec. 11 2 - 3pm; Friday, Dec. 17  5:30 - 7pm; Saturday, Dec. 18  2 - 3:30pm; Wednesday, Dec. 22 10 - 11:30am

  • Cost: $25 per child, per class

For All History Enthusiasts: Christmas Through History 

Have you heard of Historic Holidays? Immerse yourself in the Lowcountry's history at the Historic Holidays on Hilton Head Island. Many historic sites will have an open house on Saturday, Dec. 11. From the Gullah Museum to walking tours, and several forts to explore, Hilton Head Island is the place to be this holiday season. 

Check out the Historical and Preservation Society’s Hanging of the Greens in Walterboro, part of the Watlerboro’s Rock in the Holidays Events.
