Charter One Realty: When did you know that you wanted to pursue a career in real estate?

Jack Menzie: When I retired from the Realogy Corporation, I was managing the Franchise sales organization for their Coldwell Banker, Century 21, and ERA brands. I enjoyed the interaction with the Brokers we called on and thought that someday I would like to continue in the industry. So we moved to North Carolina, I took the test and went to work for Coldwell Banker Coastal Rivers Realty in Washington, NC.

Charter One Realty: Tell us about your start in the business. How did the first year go?

Jack Menzie: My first year was tremendous. I was fortunate to team up with Mary Lou Woolard (the top producer for CBCRR). Mary Lou took me under her wing and we grew as a team for the next seven years before my wife and I decided to move back north to be closer to our family.

Charter One Realty: What’s kept you in the business after your initial success?

Jack Menzie: I enjoy meeting people and helping them with finding their new permanent or vacation home.

Charter One Realty: How has technology changed the industry, and what does it mean for buyers?

Jack Menzie: Technology has provided the home buyer the ability to search markets and learn more about each community before they contact an agent.

Charter One Realty: If you weren't working in real estate, is there anything else you could see yourself doing?

Jack Menzie: If I had the ability I would join the Senior golf tour. I love the game and play as often as time permits. I would also probably travel more internationally.

Charter One Realty: What advice do you have for buyers looking in the Lowcountry?

Jack Menzie: There is no better place to retire or relocate to than the Lowcountry. Our area has the best of everything, from schools, medical, dining, relaxation, sports (both on land and on water). My wife and I have owned 15 homes in our lifetime and we have found that our home in the Rose Hill community is the best of all of them after vacationing here since 2005 we can now call this our home and love every minute of it.

Charter One Realty: Where are you from originally, and how did you come to live in the Lowcountry?

Jack Menzie: I was born and raised in New Rochelle, NY, and married my high school sweetheart. We have 3 married daughters and seven beautiful grandchildren. We originally discovered Hilton Head Island when we started coming here for the PGA Heritage Golf tournament. Each year, we would spend the month of April enjoying the tournament and the Island's many amenities.

Charter One Realty: Please tell us about your neighborhood and your home.

Jack Menzie: We live in the gated community of Rose Hill after downsizing from our very large home in Weston, VT. The community offers golf, tennis, equestrian, dining, and many other outdoor activities. Real estate opportunities in Rose Hill range from patio homes and homesites with golf and wooded views to estate-sized homes and homesites with deep water views. We found the patio homes on the golf side most appealing due to their size and virtually maintenance-free living.

Charter One Realty: Can you tell us why your community is so special to you?

Jack Menzie: The friendliness of the people, the activities, and the overall maturity of the landscape.

Charter One Realty: How would you describe the vibe in the Lowcountry?

Jack Menzie: I believe that the people that live here in the Lowcountry define the vibe of the community. Friendly and outgoing. No matter who you pass on the street everyone smiles and says hello whether they know you or not.

Charter One Realty: How have you seen the Lowcountry change — from both a personal and professional perspective — over the years?

Jack Menzie: The changes that I have seen in my years coming here has been its growth in Real Estate, amenities, health care, and services.

Charter One Realty: What are your favorite shops and restaurants in our community and why?

Jack Menzie: Restaurants are too many to name, but some are CQ's, Wise Guys, Michael Anthony's Salty Dog, and The Bluffton Room. My favorite shops are in Old Bluffton.

Charter One Realty: What are some of your favorite aspects of life in the Lowcountry?

Jack Menzie: The relaxed feeling you have and the ease of moving from one place to another.

Charter One Realty: Do you have a personal motto or mantra that guides you?

Jack Menzie: Love, Laugh, and Live every day that you have.

Charter One Realty: Please complete the sentence: “Home wouldn’t be home without . . .”

Jack Menzie: Home wouldn't be home without my wife and best friend, my family, grandchildren, our dear friends near and far, and good times.
