Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Legend Thom Schuyler Helps Veterans Turn Their Stories Into Songs
Some stories deserve more than words. They deserve a melody.
This week, Charter One Realty is welcoming Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame member Thom Schuyler to its Bluffton office for a two-day songwriting workshop benefiting Vantage Point Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps veterans and their families transition successfully into civilian life.
During the workshop, Schuyler is meeting individually with four veterans: Daryl, Brennan, Walter, and Brian. He is listening to their personal journeys and helping transform those experiences into original songs.
The songs will be performed publicly for the first time on Saturday evening at The Roasting Room in Downtown Bluffton. The performance will offer a moving tribute to service, sacrifice, resilience, and hope.
This is more than a songwriting session. It is storytelling with purpose.

Who Is Thom Schuyler?
Thom Schuyler is a Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame member whose work has helped shape country music.
His songs have been recorded by many well-known artists, including:

- The Forester Sisters
- Earl Thomas Conley

One of Schuyler's best-known songs is "Love Will Turn You Around", recorded by Kenny Rogers and recognized as ASCAP's Song of the Year.
He also wrote "16th Avenue", often described as a songwriter's anthem for Nashville. The song celebrates the writers and dreamers who helped build Music Row one song at a time.
Schuyler also helped pioneer Nashville's songwriter-in-the-round format with Don Schlitz, Fred Knobloch, and Paul Overstreet at the Bluebird Cafe. That intimate performance tradition remains an important part of Nashville's songwriting culture.
Over the course of his career, Schuyler has worked as a songwriter, music executive, performer, mentor, and storyteller. Today, he continues using those talents to help veterans share their own stories.

Music City Meets the Lowcountry brings together acclaimed Nashville songwriters, live performances, veteran stories, and community supporters. Proceeds benefit Vantage Point Foundation's work helping veterans and their families navigate life after military service.
Guests are encouraged to wear their Country Sunday Best, including dress denim, button-down shirts or blouses, cowboy boots, and perhaps an oversized belt buckle or two.
The celebration follows another signature event held the previous evening in Charleston, making the two events one of Vantage Point Foundation's premier annual fundraising weekends.
