Lowcountry Kids Activities: Indoor Spaces

The Sandbox

Choose from two locations, Hilton Head Island or Bluffton, to experience The Sandbox Children’s Museum. Kids will love exploring in 11 hands-on exhibits, where they are empowered to act as leaders instead of parents and guardians. While the kids are engrossed in the fun, adults can enjoy the educational atmosphere as they watch the children learn and grow.

In addition to occasional visits, the museum offers kid-focused programs, including field trips, parents’ night out, membership options, and more.

Need to know:

  • Cost: adults range $6 - $8 range, children age 1+: $7, children under 12 months are free, members are free

  • Check the calendar before you go to check availability and make a reservation.

SKC Zone

The Smart Company Kid Zone is a family entertainment center with tons of activities for kids in Bluffton. From escape rooms to laser tag to batting cages, this huge indoor play space is designed to create fun memories while also learning financial smarts!

Cost varies depending on the activity and length of your visit. We recommend bringing kids 6+ and leaving the little ones at home.

Head Outdoors for Lowcountry Kids Activities

Lowcountry Celebration Park

The Lowcountry Celebration Park playground opened in December 2020 and the fun hasn’t stopped since then. Be sure to check out this free and popular kid-friendly Lowcountry weekend activity. The adventures start with a giant playground ship, where kids become captains and their imaginations run wild. Kids of all ages have so much to explore in the park.

Adjacent to the giant, playful ship are play areas with traditional features like slides and climbing structures. There are exploration paths, boardwalks over water, public art, soft ground material, and basically everything you need for kids to expend all their energy in an afternoon.

Learn more about the park before you go.

Need to know:

  • Open: Monday - Sunday, sunrise to sunset

  • Parking is available at the entrance and on Nassau Street

Activities for Kids in Hilton Head: Rent a Boat

While it may seem like a big production (because it certainly can be), taking the kids on the water for a short ride is an eye-opening adventure. Rent a boat with Hilton Head Boat Rentals in Shelter Cove Marina.

You can spend a few hours on our beautiful waterways to show the children how great the naturescape is! You’ll be sure to see tons of wildlife too, so get ready to snap some great photos.

Conclusion

Whatever activity you decide to try on an upcoming weekend, be sure to check out one of these outings:

  1. Museums like The Sandbox will encourage children to learn in engaging hands-on activities.

  2. If your family hasn’t visited the new Lowcountry Celebration Park, it is a must-do for next weekend.

  3. Introduce the kids to boats and the water with a boat ride! The weather will soon get cooler, so it’s the perfect time of year to enjoy a boat ride with the family.
