There are so many Lowcountry summer activities for every age in and around our beautiful, unique region. From Savannah to Charleston, the Lowcountry offers naturescapes and activities unlike anywhere else in the country.

This year, the Lowcountry summer activities are back in full force and we have gathered plenty that you’ll want to check off your list. 

Events are back and plentiful! Most highlight the outdoors and the beautiful scenery of the lowcountry. Pack the car, load up the kids, and head to the nearest festival or celebration in town—we have you covered on where to go!

There is something special about summer in our area, with locals and tourists both enjoying the water and outdoor activities together in the sunshine. If you’re a local who prefers quieter Lowcountry summer activities, there are plenty of those too!

Outdoor Lowcountry Events


A quintessential Lowcountry summer day includes a cold beverage, the shade of a mossy oak, and hopefully, a cooling breeze off the water. Spending some time outside during these hot summers is part of the draw - from beaches to festivals alike.

The 2021 calendar is stacked with outdoor Lowcountry events for all ages. Check out a festival near you: 

Beaufort
The Beaufort Water Festival kicks off this weekend! Get ready for food, fun, and a good time in Downtown Beaufort. 

  • Beaufort Water Festival July 16-25

  • What you’ll find: A celebration of everything in the Beaufort community! Musical entertainment, local vendors and makers, a parade, an air show, and even a ball!

  • Don’t miss: The Ski Show at Waterfront Park on Sunday, July 16 at 1pm (Free)

  • Have kids? Sunday, July 16 at Waterfront Park is free 11am - 3pm

Hilton Head

Do you want to Party in the Park? All the kids agree with a “Y-E-S!” Check out the weekly event, Party in the Park going on now through August 12. 

  • Party in the Park Thursdays through Aug. 19 5:30 - 8pm

  • What you’ll find: new live music acts each night, games and activities and bounce houses for kids

  • Where: Lowcountry Celebration Park

  • Have kids? This is the perfect opportunity to let them run out of some energy before bedtime. 

Bluffton

Bluffton Sunset Parties run monthly all summer long featuring local live music, food vendors, adult beverages, and the gorgeous backdrop of the May River. They also host the May River Shrimp Festival in the same location!

Lowcountry Activities: Dinner and a Show

Have you been anxious to watch a live performance after all these months without them? Support performance arts this summer and catch a live musical after a dinner out.

Indoor Family Activities in Hilton Head and Bluffton Activities for Kids

Coastal Discovery Museum

Take the kids on a local scavenger hunt hosted by the Coastal Discovery Museum on Hilton Head Island. Build your team up to six people and register before heading to the museum. 

  • Where: Coastal Discovery Museum, 70 Honey Horn Drive on Hilton Head Island.

  • When: every Thursday and Friday at 2:30pm through Friday, Aug. 27

  • Cost: $15 per team (up to six people per team)

  • Reservations required.

Cool Off with Ice Cream

When you need a break from the heat, pop into a local ice cream shop. We recently made a list of our must-visit, favorite ice cream spots to visit. Check out one or two, or make it a challenge and visit all this summer! It’s a summertime favorite, for young and old alike. 

Ignite the Senses

If it’s just too hot to get outside, take the kids to Ignite the Senses in Bluffton to burn off that big energy.

  • Where: Ignite the Senses Children’s Gym, 163 Bluffton Road Suite C1, Bluffton, SC 29910

  • When: Open Gym hours vary, we recommend checking the website or calling ahead. They also book camps, birthday parties, and more!

  • Cost: $12 per child for Open Gym; see website for other options

  • Reservations are not required.

SCK Zone

The Smart Company Kid Zone is a family entertainment center for all ages. Created for fun…but learning is in the air! Kids have a blast, and without even realizing it, they’re also learning basic financial principles that can help them be smart savers in the future. Win-win! From Escape rooms to laser tag to indoor baseball and beyond, SKC Zone has everything your family needs to enjoy an afternoon of fun.

  • When: Open daily from 10am - 8pm; they also offer private parties, school field trips, and Student/Teacher challenges.

  • Cost: Varies based on activity

  • Reservations not required.
