Spending time enjoying our outdoor living spaces is a staple of life in the Lowcountry. According to the Weather Channel, Summer 2020 is predicted to be hotter than average. 

We are no strangers to warm summers! Our many sunny days help make Hilton Head Island one of the best places to experience a wide variety of outdoor activities for locals and tourists alike.

Outdoor Dining

Social distancing is of the utmost importance as the Lowcountry eases back into business. With the highly anticipated reopening of our restaurants comes some safety regulations: outdoor dining only. This ensures staff can enforce safe distance between customers. Being outside reduces exposure as compared to being in a dining room.

Shopping in the Lowcountry

As Lowcountry stores reopen slowly, our community is hoping to safely patronize the small businesses that make up the fabric of our town. COVID-19 continues to impact Hilton Head Island, Bluffton, and Beaufort, and we are covering the special ways our community has been responding in a series of articles.

Recently the Town of Hilton Head Island was awarded the Gold Level Bike Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists. Hilton Head Island is the only Gold Level Community in South Carolina as well as all of the Southeast. Within the Town of Hilton Head Island, there are more than 60 miles of public pathways and nature trails that cyclists can enjoy. For golf fans both throughout South Carolina and the entire country, April on Hilton Head Island brings one of the greatest golf events in the world:  The RBC Heritage Golf Tournament, taking place in Sea Pines at the The Harbour Town Golf Links Golf Course.   This year, the RBC Heritage Golf Tournament is scheduled for April 13th – 19th – marking the 47th year of this annual event that each year draws more than 100,000 spectators … and is one of the most eagerly awaited and most attended annual sporting events on Hilton Head Island.  The only PGA Tour event in South Carolina, The RBC Heritage Golf Tournament is considered one of the premier golf events in the country – and is one of Hilton Head Island’s biggest social events, as well.

While most people know Hilton Head Island for its beaches and golf courses, the Island is also home to places rich in both culture and American history.  While on the Island, make time to visit historical Mitchelville, known as the birthplace of African-American freedom, located on the north-end of the Island on Beach City Road.
