Since 1985, one of the highlights of the year for Lowcountry residents and Island visitors alike is the Hilton Head Wine & Food Festival.  This year marks the 30th anniversary of this popular and unique festival – which bringing together wine and food enthusiasts from around the country to gather in one of the world’s most perfect locations to taste an array of global wines, sample signature Lowcountry cuisine, enjoy local entertainment – and experience the true Lowcountry lifestyle and culture that has attracted visitors to this region for decades..

The Hilton Head Wine & Food Festival was originally created as a way to herald the arrival of spring – and to bring tourists to the area to enjoy the spring season prior to the busy summer season on Hilton Head Island.  What began as a one-day, three-hour tasting event 30 years ago has now grown into a full week of exciting events featuring wine dinners, author receptions, movie screenings and this year, a new golf tournament – in addition to the tastings that people have come to know and love, and which have made this event something that both tourists and local continue to be drawn to each year.

This year’s event has a new location in Sea Pines Resort and includes celebrity chef showcases, wine education sessions and visual and performing artists' exhibitions.  In addition to the growing excitement of the new festival golf event and the famed Grand  Tasting, the festival’s signature event is the original Public Tasting – which is the largest outdoor-tented public wine tasting on the East Coast.

Another unique feature of the Hilton Head Wine & Food Festival is the festival's cornerstone: the International Wine Competition. In late January, Certified Wine Educators and Advance Sommeliers spend 3 days judging over 850 different wines. Gold and silver medals are awarded and those wines are featured throughout the festival events along with other vintner's choices. Wines are judged in various categories and at all price levels.

The Festival is an event produced by the non-profit corporation Hilton Head Wine & Food, Inc. The proceeds from the festival's wine auction at the Grand and Public Tastings support the John & Valerie Curry Educational Scholarship Fund for college students pursuing degrees in the hospitality & tourism field. Scholarships are currently offered at the University of South Carolina-Beaufort and the Technical College of the Lowcountry.

Each year, thousands of visitors travel to Hilton Head Island specifically for this one-of-a-kind festival to experience, and enjoy, the wine and food culture of Hilton Head Island.  Whether you are a longtime Hilton Head Island resident, a visitor to the Lowcountry or thinking about planning a trip to Hilton Head Island, consider ushering in the spring season at the Hilton Head Island Wine & Food Festival this March.  Not only will you get to taste some of our region’s best foods and wines, but you’ll get a true “taste” of what life is like here on beautiful Hilton Head Island!
